Good Morning! If you are reading this, you must be really interested in what is in this post, and hopefully what we intend to do using this blog. We will bring you a series of concepts, conversations and views that will start making you think about the manufacturing and mechanical industry!
This blog is about the SWOT analysis of the discrete manufacturing industry. About their current challenges, the gaps, the opportunities and many obviously missed opportunities. In our experience, everyone wants to target the "low hanging fruits" first. Its a reflex turned a habit. This blog is NOT about that.
What we are not about:
We are not talking about Lean initiatives which bring about local optima, we are not about improvement. We definitely do not want to change things that can easily be changed. Not because they are easy, but surely because if it were obvious you either have tried it and it has not worked OR because they do not raise the sleeping monsters in the hidden caves of problems underlying the manufacturing industry.
What we want to be about:
We want to talk about the real challenges dug deep into the system. We want to talk about game changers that in reality will change the way we do business, the way we manage finances in manufacturing, the way we buy things in the industry. We want things that fundamentally bring new approaches to the industry. We want to talk about crowd sourcing, the sharing companies, social media knowledge transfer, accounting in the modern industry, areas of investments, Industry 4.0, saving costs on fabrications, saving costs on development.
We want to talk about upping the bottom line and not about extending the top line.
Why do we want to do that?
A friend of mine recently was sharing his views about how manufacturing can never be first time right, and how much we need to sacrifice in the name of 'development'. In the same week I was part of a conversation about how manufacturing is a business where the more you try to get it right, the more you realise you have missed. And all this comes with a cost. All this comes with a status quo about how manufacturing "must be".
